They also make nice mobile apps: I use Autodesk’s Pixlr app on a daily base to edit my mobile snapshots. Autodesk Animator was actually the first animation program I used back in the 1990s on my very first MS DOS computer (its 8-bit goodness makes me realize that we’re currently making a lot of trendy animated GIFs for our client’s online marketing at the animation studio I co-founded-nothing changed!). The company is probably best known of its industry standard software Maya and 3ds Max, but also makes many, many more applications for creative technologists. If you have any interest in 3D, you know Autodesk.

In upcoming posts, I will cover in detail how to start a full size makerspace which gives you the full range of maker education. This is where you need to be creative when making your mobile because you need to pack it as full as possible with maker materials and equipment. Mobile makerspaces do come with limitations however and the most obvious one being of limited space. This allows a school for exmple to put a maker space in every classroom because maker education involves every subject and every grade. A good solution would be to start a mobile makerspace, which is also a great concept even if you do have a room available. Sometimes your facility just doesn’t have a free room available or you want to start small and test this concept out first. One of the first things you need to do when starting a school or library makerspace is to find the “space”.
