The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is set long before the original movie and gives more insight into how the Skeksis gained power over Thra. The crystal had lost a shard 1,000 years earlier, which led to the creation of the evil Skeksis and the good mystics urRu.
But The Dark Crystal told the story of the Gelfling Jen who fulfills a prophecy to heal the dark crystal to save his planet Thra. For those needing a refresher, the 1982 movie directed by Henson and Frank Oz is available on Netflix. Whether you grew up loving Dark Crystal, learned about it through its cult status, or have no idea what this puppet movie is all about, you'll be able to jump into the sweeping fantasy epic with Age of Resistance. So while fans are simply feeling lucky to have more Dark Crystal in their lives nearly 40 years after the original movie, you may want even more puppet-led fantasy after Age of Resistance Season 1. The Dark Crystal was already a sweeping epic fantasy and Age of Resistance will open up this world even further. But with 10 episodes, the TV show will have more time to explore the history of Thra than the movie ever did. Netflix hasn't announced yet if The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will have a Season 2. But the creators are getting another chance to tell the story of the magical planet Thra in a Netflix prequel series. Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal packed a lot of mythology into just one hour-and-a-half movie.
